Well it's Christmas Eve and it's time to stop work in the workshop and get some of the Christmas decorations up in the house. We are a little old school and love to use the natural foliage from around the fields to make it look rustic and seasonal. The weather is a little wild today but it made it even nicer to be out gathering in the elements. Lois came well prepared with a homemade survival t...

Being able to use your own home grown timber to make spoons and woodenware with tools you have also made is a great feeling. Certainly the best way to test tools is to put them to use on the task they have been designed for. This new "Laser Sloyd" is certainly a great tool for carving spoons and made quick work on som...

After determining your location, I immediately made my decision tio subscribe. It was 1970 or 1971 that I participated in a preaching mission to Great Britain. I was fortunate to be assigned to an incredibly quaint village by the name of Crishall. The family with whom I stayed were delightful and very hospitable. The gentleman of the house was a farmer, church musician, & also tended an orchard. Most likely, the time of my visit preceded your birth. As a new subscriber, I look forward to learning much from you & your wife: experimenting with new skills and/or refreshing former skills. Thank you again, and may God bless you & yours!

Thank you for enabling an 83 year old man to take a walk down Memory Lane & for refreshing my memory on how to make wooden whistles like I did in my childhood & adolescence! From your accent I detected that you & your wife must live on the other side of the Atlantic. I look forward to watching more of your videos; & on the basis of this presentation, I am seriously considering becoming a subscriber. Almost 50 years ago I learned many rustic handcrafts when my family lived in the Southeastern Appalachian mountains in the USA. We now live in the Deep South. In my earlier years I was privileged to visit England, Ireland, & Scotland from which some of my ancestors migrated to America; others possibly came from Sweden or Switzerland. I am very blessed to discover your channel. May God bless you & yours!

I had no idea until by accident heard of this . I have 3 river birch but for the first time at the beginning of the year I gave them bayer feed and protect because the June bugs were eating away the leaves . I love them for their beauty and I live in a subdivision ( more about looks than nourishing) . Also use fertilizers for lawn care . I guess I will not be drinking their sap 😢

Hi. Great video. I have 1 question. You have made 20 litres and left for 2 weeks to mature. Does the whole batch then need drunk or refrigerated to stop the fermentation process or could I safely store the bottles in the garage and refrigerate a bottle at a time and drink at my leasure? Thanks.

Absolutely fascinating to see the ingenuity of land management that had evolved over centuries. Any reason why I couldn’t use this laying technique with beech please, the reason I have my doubts is that I know that hardwood beech cuttings never take, so there might be something unusual with their growing habit. Thank you.

I have an old drawknife that is probably at least a hundred years old that I inherited from an uncle who was a contractor and a master carpenter. It is in beautiful condition. I have had it for 50 years but only been using it since I retired. It has been great for making things like axe handles and lately to shape wood for the lathe. I have been using a palm stone with water, but with a much coarser grit. I see now I should treat it more like a plane blade and that I need to make a much bigger strop. Thanks again for a great video.

Standing on one leg, pumping with the other leg, as you do fine work on a foot powered lathe, and you make it all look very easy. Great video showing a man with great skill in both the use of a primitive tool and in presenting his material to an audience. Well done and thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills.

Very precise hittings, Ben! Nice teaching! You are the only one i've seen so far on YT who changes the hands when change the angle left/right. That's how you do it! About the felling: i always thought that way you show us here, but i stumbled a few days ago over Owen Wilson, also a GB Vid, and he do it different, and that worked perfect! The higher stumps(?) he create you can cut of with a saw afterwards. Or maybe you cut all of them at once after. Another one, who works with a Ox Canada-Iltis, splits the round the same way as you did, but stand on the opposite side. This function also pretty well. The splitting with the SFA: i always hate this, because of you can always get your fingers caught between the handle and the wood, so i prefer really Axes instead of Hatchets. And the middle thing with +/- 50cm. I wonder really why no one in Germany know this technique you shown here. This didn't come in my mind also.. And as a ex-logger, i prefer Axes anyway! I'll try this! (But with a X10..) Greetings!

So why do so many dudes pull the blade sideways instead of like you do it? I like your way better i just wonder why they do it?i mean the way you do it on the strop is how they use the stone
